Installation experts
When it comes to installing stained glass in Fort Collins homes, offices, commercial spaces, or churches, chapels, and temples, you want to deal with installation experts. The installation is an important aspect of the stained glass panel’s longevity. And the bigger the stained glass windows, the more expertise is required to install them in a way that will keep them strong and lasting for a century or more.
When it comes to the custom installation of our hand crafted stained glass, Fort Collins Stained Glass has developed several different methods, depending on where the window is to be installed and how big it is. For large church windows or ceilings of hotels or other commercial spaces, we will use steel support beams, placed as unobtrusively as possible, to ensure that the window will not sag or bow over time.
When it comes to home installation of stained glass, Fort Collins Stained Glass will always bond the new panel to the inside of the existing clear window pane. This method does not allow the stained glass to come in contact with the elements. It prevents any risk of damage by a flying rock or broken tree branch. And while glass is not sensitive to deterioration from water, the lead strips that hold a stained glass panel together are. So over the years, exposure to wind, rain, sleet, hail, and snow (yes, the kind of weather one finds in Fort Collins!) can cause the lead to become bowed, brittle, and unable to firmly hold the glass in place as it originally did. We eliminate this potential problem by installing the new stained glass to the existing window.
Now, what about places one might want stained glass installed that are equally wet on the inside as they might be exposed to on the outside? We are talking about very moist environments like shower stalls, pool rooms, steam rooms, etc. After what we just said, you might think it would be inadvisable to install stained glass in those areas. But with our installation methods for stained glass, Fort Collins customers can rest assured that we will also add another clear pane of glass to the other side as well. In this way, we virtually sandwich the stained glass in between the two panes of clear glass.
